Developing technology to capture and deposit Sargassum seaweed into the deep ocean.
Seaweed Generation is a robotics company that develops technology to harness the power of seaweed for long-term (100+ years) carbon dioxide removal (CDR). We are initially focusing on an invasive type of seaweed called Sargassum that is building up on a massive scale as a result of climate change. When it does this it causes ecological and economical devastation for the coasts that it hits.
Seaweed Generation's first proprietary robot ‘AlgaRay’ captures and deposits Sargassum into the deep oceans, recording and measuring each event. We bundle this data for our customers as proof of removal.
We are working with several world class scientists and organisations to conduct 3rd party verification of our project and broader MRV of our approach. These include, but are not limited to, Ocean Visions, Eco Engineers and our excellent Science Advisory Board.
Piloting in 2023, we will be at early commercial scale in 2024.
